Authors ‘Round the South (ARTS) - This site focuses on southern writers including those from North Carolina. This link leads to an excellent events and festivals calendar.
BOOKMARKS Book Festival - This free, one-day festival of books is held on the second Saturday in September in downtown Winston-Salem. For the past seven years, it has annually drawn over 6,000 readers and writers of all ages. Authors, illustrators, musical groups, storytellers, and chefs share their work and insights through readings, presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and booksignings. Food vendors and reading-related exhibitors are included.
Carolina Mountains Literary Festival - This festival, held in Burnsville in September, brings together authors with avid readers, novice writers, and fans in small, intimate settings. One goal is to raise awareness about literary significant works from smaller presses. They focus on regional writers, though not exclusively.
North Carolina Storytelling Guild (NCSG) - NCSG is focused on serving the storytelling community by providing events and an annual festi-val. It is committed to celebrating the various N.C. cultures, and promoting excellence in oral tradition. It is also an advocacy and education group.
Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities - Housed on 21 acres in Southern Pines, the Weymouth Center is a renowned, full-fledged cultural center. Its extensive events calendar features the Chamber Music Series, Ragan Writers Series, and an Arts and Humanities Lecture Series. It also has writers-in-residence programs, writing competitions, and beautiful gardens to enjoy.
