Made in North Carolina Hunger Challenge
Products should be made in North Carolina,
not hunger!™
Did you know that over 1.6 million North Carolinians (or 18.2%) are food insecure? And that 1 out of 5 children in North Carolina are at risk of hunger?

According to the most recent study from the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), Food Hardship in America 2010, North Carolina was ranked 6th worst in the nation for food hardship. The Winston-Salem Metropolitan Service Area was ranked 3rd worst and Greensboro/High Point MSA was ranked 4th worst in the nation.
How does something like this happen in a state with such large business, agricultural, and tourism sectors? North Carolina has been ranked as the #1 business climate in the nation by Site Selection magazine for 9 of the last 10 years. Agriculture-agribusiness is the #1 industry in the state at over $74 billion. North Carolina ranks as the 6th most visited state, with visitors spending $17 billion in 2010. I talked with a couple of folks at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and presented an idea on how Made in North Carolina (MINNC) could help them with their mission, to reduce hunger in the state. As N.C. businesses become a part of the MINNC website in the near future, 1/3 of the fee will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC. The business will receive a tax-deductible receipt directly from the Food Bank. For example, at a $30 Level 1 fee, $10 will go to the Food Bank. For businesses that are interested in being on the MINNC website, please go to Join MINNC.
For individuals interested in donating, please go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC. Or if you'd prefer to donate to a different NC food bank, go to Charitable Food Organizations on the MINNC website. Please let them know that Made in North Carolina referred you. Thanks!
