Here are 10 North Carolina wildlife conservation organizations.
Audubon North Carolina - The Audubon’s mission is to conserve and restore N.C.'s ecosystems, focusing on the needs of birds. Its approach combines historic strengths of solid, deliberate science with direct protection, public edu-cation and grassroots advocacy. There are 10,500 Audubon members in 7 chapters across the state.
Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (Topsail Beach) - This is definitely one of those projects you'll want to check out. It was started as a labor of love & conti-nues to be just that for anyone who gets involved, or visits them. The Center is a nonprofit staffed by volunteers. In addition to the extensive sea turtle rescues and rehab, it is involved in conservation, protection & education of all marine turtles.
North Carolina Chapter of the Wildlife Society (NCTWS) - NCTWS was founded in 1983 and is an association of wildlife professionals from all backgrounds. It seeks to guide and promote the conservation and management of wildlife resources throughout N.C., providing a forum for wildlife professionals and others to interact.
N.C. Cooperative Extension Service for Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture (NC State) - This is a great site to find information on areas like wildlife habitat improvement and endangered species, animal damage control and backyard birds, managing farm ponds for quality recreational fishing, and coolwater and warmwater fish production in North Carolina.
North Carolina Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (NCPARC) - NCPARC's mission is to conserve amphibians, reptiles and their habitats as integral parts of North Carolina's ecosystems and culture. It has public and private partnerships, and is involved in education, outreach, research and management, policy, regulations and trade.
North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF) - NCWF is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitats. It brings together the concerns of North Carolinians who love wildlife and wild places and the many ways to enjoy them. NCWF is science-based, and works with government, industry and the public.
North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation (Greensboro) - The purpose of this organization is to assist in the acquisition, manage-ment and protection of wildlife habitat in North Carolina. It also promotes conservation education, and makes grants to private and public organizations and individuals.
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) - Since 1947, NCWRC has been dedicated to the wise-use, conservation, and management of the state's fish and wildlife resources. Its policies and programs are based on scientifically sound resource management, assessment and monitoring, applied research, and public input. Products can be purchased at their N.C. Wild Store.
Western North Carolina Nature Center (Asheville) - The WNC Nature Center is a living museum of plants and animals native to the Appala-chian region. Its purpose is to increase public awareness and understanding of Western North Carolina's natural environment through hands-on and sensory experiences.
