These are excellent resources for information about North Carolina public and non-public schools.
Public Schools of North Carolina - This State site will give you information on the N.C. public school system. The Education Directory is a very comprehensive contact information resource. Also, check out the NC School Report Cards to view student achievement, class size, school safety and environment, teacher quality, and demographic details about schools and districts.
North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education (DNPE) - This State Division administers the requirements which govern non-public schools (conventional non-public and home). It pro-vides information on State educational requirements, statistics on the schools, and a Directory of Non-Public Schools. It is a very useful site for students being taught outside of the public school system.
North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) - NCSSM is the world's first public, residential high school for juniors and seniors that provides a specialized curriculum in the areas of math, science and technology. The school accepts only students from North Carolina and does so equally across all 13 congressional districts. There are no fees associated with applying, being accepted or attending NCSSM.
Governor's School of North Carolina - The Governor's School is a six-week summer residential program for up to 800 intellectually gifted N.C. high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses. There are 10 academic and performing/visual arts disciplines at the two campuses (Raleigh and Winston-Salem) where the students explore the most recent ideas and concepts. It is the oldest program of its kind in the country.
The North Carolina Technology Student Association (NCTSA) - NCTSA is the state-affiliate of the nonprofit national student organi-zation devoted to teaching technology education to young people. Its mission is to inspire student members to prepare for careers in a technology-driven economy and culture.
North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) - NCBCE is a nonprofit comprised of North Carolina’s leading corporations and businesses focused on the link between education and economic growth. Created in 1983 and located in the Office of the Governor, the Business Committee’s mission is to act as a catalyst for systemic change and continuous improvement in public education.
